  ART:
Children are encouraged to express themselves and experiment with a wide range of materials whilst developing their skills. This includes drawing, painting, collage, pottery and modeling in a custom built art room.

Art lessons are often linked to other lessons and visits to art galleries, fieldwork in the grounds and else where are undertaken. Visiting craftsmen and artists enjoy enriching the children with their knowledge. Artwork is also informed by the works of great artists and image makers from around the world.

    MUSIC:
Music has become an important part of the curriculum at Bricklehurst with more than 40 children learning individual instruments. Specialist visiting musicians offer children the chance to learn cello, piano, violin, flute, guitar, clarinet, brass, recorder and singing lessons. All children are encouraged to take music exams with the Associated Board of Music, whilst developing a love and appreciation of a wide range of different kinds of music. Look here to see our music results.

Bricklehurst has it own choir and orchestra and children are fully involved with the annual Carol Service at Stonegate village church and performances to parents, including involvement with the drama productions in the prep department.

“...we applaud your efforts to improve
musical standards at the school – with such encouraging results already!”

    DRAMA:
Drama is valued at Bricklehurst and the specialist teacher works closely with the English and Music teachers to encourage confident public speaking and enthusiastic performers. English speaking examinations are taken by the children in Year 6 as part of the National curriculum.

The Pre prep perform a nativity based story at Christmas
which is performed on stage at Stonegate village hall;
Years 3 and 4, in the prep department, perform at Easter
at the Commemoration Hall in Wadhurst and Years 5 and 6 perform at the end of the academic year in the summer.
In this way drama has become a strong area of interest and many children have found an area in which to excel.

Throughout the school, children’s health, social, emotional
and cultural needs are addressed though our PSHE programme which includes our circle time, assembly and selection of visiting speakers, including a drugs awareness session to
which parents are invited.

Children also have the opportunity to learn emergency first
aid with St. Johns Ambulance and road safety via cycling
proficiency classes.

Bricklehurst has a Christian ethos and we enjoy our visits to Stonegate village Church for our carol service and celebration of Harvest Festival. The vicar also regularly visits the school
for morning assembly.

As part of our Religious studies, the children are taught about other faiths so that they may have a breadth of knowledge
and a growing awareness and tolerance of others’ views.

    DESIGN TECHNOLOGY:
Themes and ideas for model making and problem solving activities are drawn from the main syllabus. Children learn to work individually and together in groups to create basic designs and experiment to improve them.
